Thriller Codes and Conventions ~ Preliminary Task 1

Image
  1)  A technical element being used here is Camera as different with the high-angle shot looking down at her on the stairs, this makes the female character appear vulnerable as she is being looked down upon. The setting and location (mise en scene) of the thriller is fitting and realistic, this creates an effect of it it being more believable. Something not so well done would include the audio and sound. The voice overs of the mum and daughter communicating as she leaves the house doesn't blend so well with the digetic sound of the rest of the verbal interactions

Script Storyboard Filming Equipment Here is a list of filming equipment  I am in charge of collecting - Boom stick - Boom mic - Lighting Kit - Fleccie - School camera and SD card As Director, here are some films that inspired me: The whole breakfast scene is similar in what we are trying to achieve with Katy's perfected morning routine which she is tired of doing. This opening sequence is something we want to look at as it has an uncomforting feel, achieved by the font, orientation and color grade

How to Create Suspense through camera movements: ( Things I would like to apply) 1) Subtle dolly: The character is moving forward towards the camera while the camera moves back at a slower pace. This would be done by the cameraman and would be effective in cultivating suspense 2)The Unseen: What is unseen is scarier than what is seen. Showing the reactions of the actor and then cutting to a POV. As the director I could incorporate this into the story board and replicate this in order to build suspense. How to create suspense and tension like Alfred Hitchcock: (Things I would apply) 1) The Sound of silence: Sometimes what don't hear is more powerful than what you do. Silence can make our audience squirm as the anticipation of noise is so tense. We can apply this when we film and edit. 2) Tension is not about what's happening its about what's not happening and the more we wait, the sweeter the release. As Director its key that i am deliberate with the storyline in ortder tro...
